Since we’re spending more time at home than usual, finding the perfect candle is essential. The aroma instantly brings back memorable moments and can often help create a relaxing space. Now more than ever we are searching for scents that are comforting and soothing to make lockdown a bit cozier.

The top things we recommend keeping in mind when hunting for a new candle include fragrance, ingredients, and burn time. Since purchasing a candle in-stores is a bit more challenging right now, reading online reviews and comments about each candle brand is imperative, and can really help narrow down your choices. If you want to opt-out of doing the research yourself, consider adding these five Canadian candle brands that have received the Pretty Little Hangers stamp of approval to your carts instead.

1.Ten/ 01: The brand’s philosophy as stated on its website is “there are 365 days in a year and more than just one day deserves to be celebrated. Everyday is a special occasion are the words we live by.” Hand poured in Toronto, Ten/01 is made with 100% soy wax and pure cotton wicks. Each candle contains no synthetic fragrance are paraben-free, phosphate- free and phthalate-free. Some notable scents include: Cannabis Flower Garden, Bergamot Tobacco and Vanillawood.

2. Lohn: Founded in 2018 by two female chemical engineer’s, Lohn is handmade in Toronto with recyclable packaging, soy wax, and clean scents like coconut. Kat and Victoria’s scented candles are designed to transport you to another location and moment in time.

3. 100 Years of Love: 100 Years of Love is another Toronto-based brand we couldn’t resist adding to the list. With a minimalist design philosophy, quality ingredients, and burn times of up to 40+ hours each candle is sure to provide a unique scented experience for your home.

4. Mala: Mala candles are handcrafted with love in Vancouver, BC. The brand’s mission is, “to provide a stimulating environment to shop, learn, and most importantly, find inspiration.” We love that has partnered with Tree Era and Trees for the Future so that every purchase made results in a tree being planted around the world. Looking to introduce some fresh spring scents into your space? Look no further, Mala’s six new scents are inspired by fresh spring air and sweet desserts.

5. Nautana: This black-owned business takes a holistic approach to life with the intention of providing customers with the resources to “allow them to reconnect with themselves.” Nautana candles are produced using eco-conscious ingredients like coco-soy wax. With nine scents to choose from, and bold scent combinations to note in the brands spring collection that include tangerine and frankincense with hints of amber and patchouli, these candles deserve a space on our Pretty Little coffee table.
