Today marks the first day of fall, and even though we aren’t experiencing fall-ish weather just yet in Toronto, I’ll happily enjoy the warmth for as long as I can in this city. My mom’s birthday was Wednesday, and we celebrated with high tea at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake as seen here and here. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Niagara-on-the-Lake, it is one of the most charming towns that is located just 30 minutes away from Niagara Falls and about an hour or so from Toronto. I am a huge fan of the wineries and theatres in Niagara-on-the-Lake, but I especially like the adorable ice cream shops, bed and breakfast hotels and surrounding estates. I think it’s safe to say that this Southern Ontario town has many similarities to the Hampton’s.
If you follow my blog, you may have seen my Instagram posts over the fourth of July weekend in Montauk. Montauk is located at the east end of Long Island, New York and is a popular destination for New York City residents to escape the concrete jungle and enjoy some downtime by the beach.
I’ve always wanted to visit the Hamptons and decided to book a stay at Gurney’s Montauk Resort and Spa for the fourth. Originally a popular destination for time-share owners, Gurney’s catered to family’s, but the resort has transitioned into a millennial-friendly day party scene since then. Though I was pleasantly surprised to find a younger crowd at Gurney’s, I loved that I could easily escape the chaos by the DJ booth and relax by the beach or spend a day at Seawater, the five-star spa located on-site.
Before heading to New York, I knew I needed what I like to call proper “Hampton’s attire”. In my mind, this meant summer whites like this look, an abundance of stripes like this and overall more relaxed looks. Once my suitcase was packed with enough Club Monaco pieces to last a lifetime it was time for my road trip to the Hamptons to begin. The drive from Toronto to the Hamptons is about nine hours so you can probably imagine how happy I was when I finally arrived at the hotel.
After checking in, I was relieved to have a room with an ocean view just steps away from the sand. With the bonus of having Scarpetta on site, I knew that I would have most lunches and dinners at this delicious Italian restaurant. Even though I spent most of my time in Montauk, I love to explore so having my car made it easy to pop in and out of the surrounding areas.
South Hampton is one of my favorite areas in the Hamptons because of the amazing shopping on Front Street. Full of cute boutiques like Intermix, Alice and Olivia and Ralph Lauren this area will not disappoint “fashionistas” looking to window shop or find cutesy nautical items. If you’re ever in the area make sure you check out the Citraella market. They have amazing cold-cuts, bread, and yummy cookies from Tate Bake shop.
East Hampton was another area in the Hamptons that really impressed me. Though I only went to East Hampton for dinner the downtown area was just as adorable as South Hampton’s busy area.I had dinner at an Italian restaurant owned by Donna Karen called Tutti il Giorno. This restaurant was full of beautiful people and had a lovely outdoor patio that was at capacity that evening which left me yearning for the opportunity to dine outside on another trip. I ordered the Burrata and Paccheri pasta and left pleased with my meal and pleasantly plump.
From Montauk to South Hampton, a quick jaunt to East Hampton and finally back to the end of Montauk, I was a busy bee exploring new parts of the city every day. For one of the best views in town I went to the top of Montauk Point Lighthouse, one of the first lighthouses built in New York state. This was my first time climbing steep stairs inside of a lighthouse, and I’m so happy that I did. The view from this lighthouse is breathtaking and certainly Tumblr goals.
Speaking of Tumblr goals, the Hamptons is so picturesque it definitely could be a scene from one of your favorite movies. The lawns are immaculate, the hydrangeas are incomprehensible, the fresh paint on the siding glistens, and everything about this town screams welcome to America. I adore this Long Island gem and can’t wait for my next visit.
