I am still swooning over my recent staycation at the Fairmont Royal York hotel. I am a huge fan of staycations and love feeling like I am being pampered on a vacation in another country even though I am just minutes away from my Toronto home.

The Royal York hotel is centrally located in the heart of downtown Toronto and is a pet-friendly property. I was happy to learn about the Fairmont’s pet policy and bring my pup, Winston, along for a night at this luxurious hotel. If you travel with your dog often then I’m sure you’ve come across beautiful hotels that don’t allow pets, talk about putting a damper on planning a trip, but the Fairmont Royal York is not one of those destinations and welcomes most pets.

From the moment Winston and I arrived on the property the hotel staff was so warm and accommodating. After a prompt check-in, we found dog treats and coconut macarons waiting for us inside of our luxe suite- what a great way to make us feel right at home. Winston is usually really excited to stay at a new hotel, but once he got his paws on a puppy treat the Fairmont instantly became one of his favourite hotels.

After Winston completed his usual room check (sniffing the entire perimeter of the hotel suite), we were off to explore the hotel grounds. Our tour began on the hotel’s rooftop which was quite the unexpected treat. The Fairmont’s rooftop is home to the hotel’s herbal garden which has over 70 different herbs that are used in the dining outlets throughout the hotel. The rooftop is also home to the hotel’s bee farm which consists of 350,000 bees that help produce the hotel’s, yummy honey. The Royal York’s rooftop is usually inaccessible to the public, but if you reserve an afternoon tea service at the Library Bar or are a VIP guest, then you will be able to catch a glimpse of one of the most stunning views of the CN Tower in the city.

The Fairmont’s afternoon tea service is open to the public on weekends and has been a tradition since the hotels grand opening in 1929. If you are impartial to having afternoon tea at the Library Bar, then I would highly recommend checking out this iconic bar for a cocktail and delicious bites instead. The Library Bar’s martini was voted the best in Toronto, and the seasoned bartenders can make any whiskey based drink using a selection of rare Single Malt Whiskies that will satisfy any Whiskey fanatic. If you decide to go to the Library Bar for food and bevies, make sure you order the oysters, and beef tartare- you will not be disappointed.

My experience did not end at the Library Bar that evening. The next morning I left the hotel feeling extremely satisfied with the hotel’s impeccable service and completely stuffed from the delicious eggs Benny and fruit platter I enjoyed in bed before my departure. Winston and I enjoyed our stay and would gladly call the Fairmont Royal York our second home away from home if we could. Every detail in this historic hotel feels exquisite and luxurious. We both can’t wait for our next visit!

A special thanks to the Fairmont Hotel for hosting us for a paw-sitive dog-friendly staycation. Book your stay here!

xo, Britney
