I am crazy about my skin and skincare, which I assume most of you are too. In fact, I know that following a good skincare routine, getting facials regularly at D-Luxe Lab, and maintaining a healthy diet has been the ultimate game changer for my skin. Don’t get me wrong; I am still open to trying a new product or treatment if the results will leave me fresh-faced avec baby soft skin. Maybe that’s why I was so eager to try collagen powders and was thrilled when Vital Proteins sent me their Collagen Peptides with Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C supplement powder. Some of the benefits associated with taking collagen supplements include reducing the appearance of fine lines, healing wounds, and repairing the gut. These benefits are why I did not flench when adding a bit of youth-preserving magic to my diet.
So what the heck is collagen anyway? Let me break it down for you because I’ll admit I initially thought collagen was something doctors used for cosmetic procedures like face injections (which they do, but this isn’t its only use). According to Health Line, collagen is a protein that provides structure to our bodies and holds cells and tissues together. Our bodies naturally produce collagen, but unfortunately, it diminishes as we age- I know I was shocked too! One of the visible signs of collagen reduction is wrinkles and fine lines.
Health Line states that there are at least 16 different collagen types, but type I II and III are the most common types you’ll find in collagen supplements. Sure, you can get these collagen types through your diet by consuming bone-infused foods, like bone broth. But let’s face it, how many of us are making bone broth at home or have the funds to dish out money for expensive pre-made broths? Why not easily increase your collagen intake with a supplement- it’s a quick solution to replenish your body’s collagen.
Hydrolyzed collagen supplement powders like Vital Proteins unflavoured peptides are an excellent alternative to implement more collagen into your body. This sustainably sourced supplement absorbs into the body better. It’s uniformed peptide fragments help improve skin hydration, elasticity, and firmness, thus making your skin appear more youthful over time.
You can ingest collagen supplements in either a tablet or powder form. I prefer the powder form because it’s easy to mix into a smoothie. I add 2 cups of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides to a smoothie every other day. These are the two collagen-infused smoothie recipes I am currently loving.
- Chocolate Banana Collagen Smoothie
When your chocolate craving comes flooding in, reach for this chocolate banana collagen smoothie instead. With five simple ingredients, this smoothie is easy to make and will help you start your day on the right track.
2. Spinach and Kale Green Collagen Smoothie
If you’re more of a green smoothie lover try this spinach and kale collagen infused smoothie instead. The spinach helps with detoxification, the banana is loaded with potassium which according to Health Line can reduce blood pressure and help prevent osteoporosis. The chia seeds are rich in fibre and antioxidants, and lets not forget how awesome ingredients like kale and ginger are for our health. Green smoothies are a great way to increase your daily vegetable intake, energy levels and boost your brainpower. Sounds like a magical concoction of health benefits that will only take 10 minutes out of your day to create- score!
