The Bright Boost collection was formulated for millennials by millennial scientists to combat dull, tired skin and restore brightness.

We chatted with Juliet Choi from the Neutrogena team, and here’s what she had to say about The Bright Boost Collection, one of the newest additions to the Neutrogena fam.

What is the best way to determine your skin type?

While there are many tools online to help you figure out your skin type (quizzes, articles, etc.), we recommend consulting with a professional expert such as a dermatologist, to assess your skin type and recommend the best types of products to use.

What are your top 3 skincare tips for each skin type?

In addition to choosing the right products for your individual skin needs, Neutrogena recommends including three essential steps in every skincare regimen to help maintain healthy skin – cleanse, moisturize and protect.

Step 1: Cleansing can involve both a make-up remover followed by a cleanser or just a cleanser if you don’t need to remove any make-up. No matter your skin type, you should opt for a gentle cleanser so you don’t strip your skin of its natural oils or irritate it with things like soap dyes or harsh chemicals.

Step 2: Follow with a moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and supple.

Step 3: The final and most important step is SPF. It is a must to wear sunscreen every day to protect your skin from harmful UVA / UVB rays all year round. There are so many different types of sunscreens out in the market right now that it’s easy to find the one that best suits your skincare needs.

Which skin type is the Neutrogena bright boost line suitable for?

The Bright Boost collection was formulated for millennials by millennial scientists to combat dull, tired skin and restore brightness. Most women will see some evidence that their skin is changing as they near thirty. Somewhere along the way between heading outside without sunscreen and spending late nights at work – they’ll notice their skin doesn’t have that wideawake look anymore. Instead, dull skin is staring back at them.

Our cells and our bodies are changing daily, and that’s why what we eat, the activities we engage in, our skincare routines and even the people we spend time with, all influence the pace of natural aging in our cells and the results that show up on our skin. The older we get; the rate of our surface cell turnover slows down. This means that old skin cells get stuck and that’s when your complexion starts to look dull.  The fresh, new skin cells that help us look luminous, take a longer time to resurface. And that’s where Bright Boost comes in.

One of the key ingredients for the Neutrogena Bright Boost line is Neoglucosamine- can you explain what this ingredient is and how its beneficial for the skin?

Neoglucosamine is a non-acid amino sugar that works in harmony with other effective skin-brightening ingredients. It gently exfoliates and boosts surface cell turnover and helps alleviate discolouration, evening out skin tone. It’s also a building block of Hyaluronic Acid – meaning it uniquely hydrates and replenishes skin. This premium ingredient ignites brightness and Neutrogena has brought it to the mass market through Bright Boost.

What are the best ingredients for dull skin?

When it comes to restoring brightness, you need an ingredient or product that treats the three main signs of dullness – dehydration, uneven tone and texture. The Bright Boost collection is powered by Neoglucosamine and other effective skin-brightening ingredients that work to do just that:

  • Turmeric Extract provides antioxidant benefits
  • Mandelic and Glycolic acid help to retexturize
  • Gluconolactone is a gentle exfoliating acid
  • Moringa Seed Extract helps nourish skin

What ingredients help improve skin tone, texture, fine lines and hyperpigmentation in the Neutrogena bright boost collection?

Neoglucosamine helps even out skin tone; Mandelic and Glycolic acid retexturize skin; and AHAs and PHAs help improve the look of fine lines and skin’s texture.

Would you recommend using the entire skin brightening system together or can you implement other products in conjunction this line for effective results?

We recommend using the collection as a whole for the best results; the products were actually formulated with specific ingredients to help complement one another and to be used together as an entire regimen. Start with the Resurfacing Micro Polish to prep skin, follow with the Illuminating Serum to treat skin, then use the Gel Cream to moisturize and end the regimen by protecting your skin with the Moisturizer with SPF 30.

When it comes to using Bright Boost with other products – it is safe to use with ingredients like AHAs, PHAs and BHAs, but mixing Bright Boost with Retinol may reduce the efficacy of both products. If Retinol products are also in the routine, we recommend alternating usage.

What changes can people implement during quarantine to achieve glowing skin?

There are lots of things you can do to glow from the inside out, including drinking more water, getting enough sleep, eating healthy and carving out time to exercise or meditate. When it comes to your skincare regimen specifically, make sure to include the three most important steps: cleanse, moisturize and protect skin with SPF…and look for products that treat uneven tone and texture, as well as hydration.

What’s a good night time skincare routine to implement during quarantine?

It’s always good to wash your face every night before going to bed to remove any dirt and excess oil. We recommend following with a mask to give yourself a little self-care moment. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Hydrogel Mask is made with hyaluronic acid and a unique 100% hydrogel material that contours to your skin and seals in the formula, leaving your skin soft, hydrated and supple. End your routine with a moisturizer that is a little bit thicker than the one you use during the day
