5 Stay At Home Date Night Ideas For Valentine’s Day

By Posted on 2 Comments Location: 4 min read

Love is in the air and Valentine’s Day is officially on the horizon! Romantic red roses and pretty pink hearts have found their way into every nook and cranny of most stores, just as they have in years past, yet Valentine’s Day itself might look a little different this time around.

Since we’ll be spending another cozy night in our casas for the sake of our own health and safety, it’s pretty unlikely that our date-night plans will consist of a fancy dinner or an extravagant night on the town this year. But even though our once typical soirees have become a thing of the past due to our new normal, let it be known that spending some quality time with your bae or beau is never out of the question.

Of course, after last year, we’re no longer strangers to stay at home date nights. But, we also know first hand that curling up on the couch for a nightly Netflix binge has kind of lost its charm after so many months of doing it. So if you need to hit the reset button on your romantic routine before the 14th rolls around, trust us when we say that you’re not alone! That’s exactly why we’re sharing 5 at-home date night ideas that are sure to get the sparks flying and your S.O. swooning again.

1. Cook Together

You know how the saying goes – “the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach”. And now that you’ve practically memorized your favorite restaurant’s take out menu, it might be time to spice your mealtime routine up a bit. Dust off those cookbooks, break out your best pots and pans, and spend the evening whipping up a gourmet dinner for two. Whether you fire up the grill for a filet mignon or roll out the dough to make your own homemade pasta, cooking together is sure to get the heat rising – if you know what we mean, *wink*. Just don’t forget to kiss the cook once dinner is done!

2. Create Your Own Cocktail Hour

Grab your boo and some booze, and then get ready to channel your inner mixologist! Concoct your own version of a classic spirit, or try your hand at creating your own signature sips. If you’d rather let the experts show you how it’s done, you can also hire a virtual mixologist and have them lead you through a cocktail making class on Zoom. After all, nothing gets the sparks flying quite like a cocktail and they don’t call it happy hour for nothing.

3. Play Some Games

Revive the romance with a bit of rivalry. Break out the Boggle, get tangled up with Twister, or make some impressive money moves with Monopoly. Whichever game you decide to play, a bit of friendly competition is sure to bring you two closer. Don’t forget to raise the stakes and up the ante by picking a prize for the winner. Who knows? Maybe your exceptional Scrabble skills will score you a post-game massage or bragging rights for the rest of the month. Now that’s our kind of date night!

4. Go For A Picnic

If weather allows, venture out of the four walls of your dining room and take things outside. Start by packing up a picnic basket of your favorite foods, then head to a nearby park to enjoy an intimate dinner date at sunset. If you’d prefer to have someone to take care of the picnic setup for you, check out companies like The Picnic Collective!

If you have to swap your night under the stars for a night under strict stay at home orders, try setting up your picnic in the living room. Simply lay out a blanket, break out a bottle of wine, and amp up the ambiance by dining in the candlelight. It doesn’t get much more romantic than that, does it babes?

5. Have A Backyard Movie Night

Movie nights have most likely been your go-to date night since stay at home orders went into place back in March, but we’re about to kick it up a notch. Recreate a little movie magic by creating your own intimate movie theater in the backyard – complete with cozy blankets and popcorn, of course! All you need to enjoy a flick in the fresh air is a blank screen, a projector and your favorite movies on queue.

Try not to just settle for watching season 2 of The Office for the eighteenth time. Switch it up by streaming something special, like a marathon of all of the movies in your favorite franchise or some of the films you saw together when you first started dating. This date-night idea is fool proof, so you can trust that when Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King start crooning “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?”, the answer will be a resounding yes.
