By Posted on 0 Comments Location: 4 min read

We’ve been counting down the days and it’s officially here! Spring break season is finally upon us and words don’t even begin to describe how ready we are to indulge in some well-earned R&R for the next week or so.

And while we know that jetting off for a vacation in a dreamy destination is pretty much out of the question at the moment, what if we told you that getting a much needed escape from reality isn’t actually as impossible as you think it is right now?

Call us crazy, but if there’s anything that’ll allow you to be transported to a world that’s completely different from your own, it’s a book. And no matter which one you pick up, it’ll give you the opportunity to live vicariously through someone else’s  words, with every single page you turn.

Of course, when there’s an infinite number of books you could possibly read on your March break, the trickiest part is narrowing it down. Which is exactly why we’re sharing five of our favorite books to read right now. So whether you love poetry, or you’re a sucker for a good mystery, below you’ll find plenty of picks that are perfect for binge-reading on your break.

  1. For the one who loves a little romance – In Five Years

Don’t get us wrong. We adore a good love story just as much as the next person, but trust us when we say that this one isn’t quite what you’re expecting. When Dannie Kohan, an ambitious type-A lawyer from Manhattan, is asked where she sees herself in five years, she’s confident that she’s got all the answers. She’s aced an interview for her dream job and just said yes to a proposal from her dream man. But when she wakes up the next morning, she’s suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger and a very different man beside her. Of course we won’t reveal what happens next, but if you’re a sucker for a moving story that’s laced with themes of love, friendship and fate, then In Five Years should be at the top of your reading list.

2. For the one who prefers poetry – Break Your Glass Slippers

Spoiler alert: The damsel in distress saves herself in this one! In her book Break Your Glass Slippers, author Amanda Lovelace gives a voice to the wise Fairy Godmother we’ve always dreamed of having. And no, she doesn’t have a magical wand or a team of mice who sew and sing, but she does have a collection of awe-inspiring poems lined with empowering themes of strength and self-love. This little book is filled with so many thought-provoking and relatable tidbits that we wouldn’t be surprised if you read the entire thing in one sitting – and then turned back to page one to read it all over again. If you love a good fairytale, but you’ve always wondered why the Prince gets to do all the saving, then this one’s for you.

3. For the one who wants a good mystery – One Of Us Is Lying

What if you mixed The Breakfast Club and Pretty Little Liars into one thrilling murder mystery? That’s exactly the question Karen McManus must’ve asked herself before penning this one out. One Of Us Is Lying tells the tale of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. It’s a suspenseful story filled with riveting rumours, brooding backstabbers and unexpected plot twists – making it the ideal read for anyone who loves a classic, but prefers it with a criminal curveball. The best part? Once you’ve finished reading this one, there’s already another mystery waiting to be solved in the sequel!

4. For the perfectionist – The Gifts Of Imperfection

If you’re the type of babe who sees March break as the perfect opportunity to refresh and reset your life for the better, then you’ll want to pick up a copy of The Gifts Of Imperfection. In this ultra-inspiring book, Brene Brown discusses what life would be like if we let go of who we think we’re supposed to be and instead embraced who we actually are, imperfections and all. Her combination of honest storytelling and heartfelt encouragement is exactly what you need if you want to overcome your insecurities in order to cultivate your feelings of self-worth and acceptance.

5. For the one who needs a little inspiration – What I Know For Sure

We all know and love Oprah. And if there’s one thing we believe to be true about her, it’s that she has the kind of wisdom we could all benefit from hearing right about now. So when we stumbled across her book What I Know For Sure, we knew we had to share it with you. Each page is packed to the brim with some of Oprah’s best “aha” moments – from the life lessons she’s learned, to the gratitude she’s gained and the clarity she’s found over the years. It offers a unique glimpse into the mind of one of the world’s most extraordinary women, so you can trust that it’ll fill your spring break with so much exhilarating and uplifting inspiration that you won’t even know what hit you.
