With the official start of summer in a little over two weeks, we are counting down the days until we can ditch our loungewear for flirty summer dresses, bright accessories and shimmery shades of bronzer to intensify our tans. We’re ready to channel our inner fashionistas again, piece together outfits, and re-introduce a summer wardrobe that Anna Wintour herself would give a thumbs up to.
After reviewing countless runways, and street style looks, these are the trends that are popping up everywhere that we recommend adding to your shopping carts before June 20th.
1/8 Silk Scarves:
Alexander McQueen Butterfly Decay silk scarf ($350)
With headscarves making its way back into fashion, a lightweight silk scarf with bright patterns like this one from Alexander McQueen is a great transitional piece that can be styled well into summer. The versatility of silk scarves in undeniable as we’ve seen them being worn as a strapless top, halter top that is fixed by stringing a necklace around the scarf, or tie it around your hair as a headband or bandana.
2/8 Shoulder Bags:
GLYNIT Molly Bag in Classic Blue (€69.00)
Bold patent leather shoulder bags are trending this season. We love Glynit’s vegan version and can’t wait to get our hands on this adorable bag. Whether you’re styling a monochromatic look and want to add a fun pop of color, or simply want to make a statement with this ‘it bag’ we guarantee the ‘Molly’ bag will have all eyes on her. This shiny lacquer bag also comes in a range of other colours like lilac, almond, green apple, and black.
3/8 Velcro Sandals:
GANNI Recycled Rubber Velcro Sandal in Pink ($235)
A fashionable take on what was originally deemed a hiking boot with cutouts, velcro sandals have come a long way since the days where they were strictly worn for trekking through trails. This reinvented classic got an updated twist that features fun colors, and chunkier soles. It’s no wonder this trend isn’t slowing down after Insta famous trendsetters started wearing luxury brand interpretations last summer. We certainly plan to wear this season’s most comfortable sandal this summer and pair them with skirts, denim shorts or dresses. However, we plan to opt for a mid-priced version like this pair from Ganni since it is a trend after all. Ganni’s version is made from 50% recycled rubber and comes in multiple colors.
4/8 Mock Neck Dresses:
Are You Am I Dael Dress in White ($160)
90s fashion is having a major reassurance and mock neck dresses are showing face all over the internet. Are You Am I’s Dael dress is an ideal summer version with its ultra-low back, lightweight baby rib cotton fabric, and crisp white color. You can style this dress as cover up over a bikini or as a beach look for those summer hangs in the sand. Pair this dress with rattan sandals, gold hoops and a straw sun hat for a chic elevated summer look.
5/8 Skin Baring Cutouts:
I.AM.GIA. Annihya Pant in Black ($75)
We’re ready to usher in summer with skin-baring styles instead of our recent oversized go-tos that are becoming a distant COVID attire memory. With the return of other skin-baring trends like thong jeans which in our opinion are majorly cringe-worthy, the alternative pant style we can stand behind has mesh cutouts at the hipbones instead. I.AM.GIA’s Annhya’s Pant is giving us major Contessa vibes, and has us daydreaming about a European vacation in the southern Italy. Style these straight leg pants over your bikini bottoms this summer, or wear with a crop top for date night
6/8 Belly Chains:
Chrome Hearts Waist Chains in Gold and Silver ($ unknown)
A huge trend from the 2000’s has risen from the fashion closets of celebs like Beyonce and Christina Aguilera, the belly chain. Since summer is well on the horizon and our mid-riffs will likely be receiving a lot of sun exposure soon, why not adorn them with the hottest accessory trend of the season. Lately, Kylie Jenner, Bella Hadid, and many others have been spotted wearing Chrome Hearts waist chains which are unfortunately unavailable online as of yet. But definitely expect us to keep our eyes peeled for the moment we can get our hands-on CH’s version. Belly chains are available at other retailers, and ae a great way to accessorize not only your bikinis but also a jean and crop-top outfit combo this summer.
7/8 Resin Rings:
Evry Jewels Aquamarine Ring ($17.50)
We’re putting our classic gold and silver ring collections on pause this summer, and reaching for resin rings with bold fun colours instead. We’re ready to make a major statement in not only our bikinis, but also our accessories this summer. Evry Jewels Aquamarine Ring is the resin ring of our dreams. Blue is the trending color of the season, and will look so beautiful when paired with summer whites and linens.
8/8 String Bikinis:
Inamorata Neptune Top ($75.00)
String bikinis are certainly a summer staple; however, this seasons version reveals less fabric and longer strings to tie around the abdomen are favoured. Super model, Emily Ratajkowski’s swim line, Inamorata, has a collection that’s full of bold prints like zebra, leopard and snakeskin. Made of 80% Nylon and 20% Lycra, Inamorata’s Neptune top looks flattering on all body types. The halter straps appear more structured and cut thicker than the string ties around the bustline. This way, you can wear it as intended, or tie the straps around, criss-cross, or in any other direction of choice to switch up the look.
What are some of your favourite summer trends?
