Back for their 16th trip to the New York Fashion Week runway, luxury womenswear brand Noon by Noor released their Fall 2020 collection – which was a modern take on their rich Bahraini heritage. Designers Shaikha Noor Al Khalifa and Shaika Haya Al Khalifa often draw on their home country of Bahrain as a source of inspiration, harmoniously blending their Eastern culture with Western style to create contemporary clothing with lasting appeal.
Attesting to the core identity of their label – the collection reflected a balance between softness and strength. Construction details like narrow vertical slits and square necklines worked in cohesion with released pleats and pin tucks. Though the styles were grounded in masculine shape, they were juxtaposed with a touch of femininity. As seen in the looks below, the collection combines sharp silhouettes with pieces accented by delicate embroidery.
This season, the duo used a refined combination of luxurious fabrics and impeccable tailoring to take us on an architectural tour of Bahrain. They drew inspiration from the traditional and ornate designs carved into the country’s wooden structures, doorways and buildings. These geometrical shapes were best reflected in the lace design on the dress shown below.
A bold scarf-tailoring fabric with a raw fringed edge provided a contrast to fabrics like satin, silk, chiffon and organza which infused a sense of romance and fluidity. They also added a unique twist to a classic tweed, lining it with a vibrant coloured fabric.
This season’s colour palette of sandstone and darker wood tones was inspired by visions of the golden hour of sunlight at dusk. Monochrome shades like black, white and ivory worked in synchronicity with pops of earthy colour like yellow, pink and brown.
As expected, the collection was both polished and effortless – providing the simple chic look the duo is so well known for.
